The State offices closed at 1:30pm today so most of them showed up to the store :-P I swear, the entire cities of Albany and Colonie were there milling around and throwing books all over. It was a decent day overall though. Nice people, generally. And my geekiness came in handy three times - once to get the Diane Ravitch book The Language Police, another to help someone with an Alias book (which won't be out until September and I waaant it), and lastly to help someone who wanted to know the release date of TTT. They dodn't know what an extended edition was so I needed to educated ^_^* Also, cute Air Force guy walked in. *hee* Helped him find a study guide for some qualification test.

[edit: Chad stopped in and we chatted for awhile ^_^ It was fun. I miss him and my other friends from Oneonta :( ]

There's no one to take my 12-4 shift next Thursday :( People are either already working or on vacation. Boo!

Things I saw in the store that I want: The Language Police, Jon Stewart's book, Buffy Philosophy book, Buffy Slang dictionary, and I want to order the Alias books on audio CD XD 'Cause I would be amused.

via [livejournal.com profile] gypsyjr: CNN reported that Iraqis were unmoved by America's powerloss. Actually, they called it a plight. Dude, it wasn't that bad. Okay, it was, but it wasn't the end of the world or anything. Also, why should Iraqis care? Our invasion left them without power for weeks. The frell do they care if we don't have power for a night?

[edit: an article on that topic from [livejournal.com profile] shingkhor: Iraqi's Top 10 Tips for enduring blackout ]

For the NZTrip gang: a Red Carpet Tours report

Off to get dinner!

Oh geez. After living most of my life in places with very shaky power supplies - I honestly don't sympathize all that much. I mean, really - I feel bad for the people it inconvenienced, but it was a friggin blackout. Just because the wonderful America doesn't have them often doesn't mean it's that a big a deal when they do have one.

And really - CNN must be completely retarded or something. I mean really, people that we've just bombed the hell out off would REALLY feel for our lack of power because we couldn't get home on time.

It's an inconvenience - not a plight.

Hehe...I think this was the article. I thought it was hilarious.

NPR did a short report on how amused the Iraqis were. It made me laugh. And realize that a lot of people who don't live in the US don't really understand how interesting and almost special this experience was. I mean, the lack of looting is just one example. Now if only they could figure out why it happened.

Heh. Yes, my friend stuck in Manhattan was pretty amazed that people weren't breaking into stores or walking out with things.

I'm waiting for them to start blaming a foreign country for the powerloss...

*laughs*

That would be just like us. And we did, sort of, by blaming Canada. Now it's Ohio. I don't understand exactly, but apparently it has to do with something that lasted for 9 seconds near some Erie thing.

Both, that was not at all helpful.

Hm. Yeah, but the Canada blame was more like, "It might have been Canada" as opposed to "those damn _____ and their inferior technology!" or, you know, a terrorist angle.

Ahahhaha. True.

And, yeah. I was surprised (in a good way), though, with how quickly it was determined that it wasn't a terrorist act.

I can't watch CNN and not feel compelled to throttle them.

I am officially jealous of the Red Carpet Tour that you'll presumably be going on.

Ah, well, we're probably not going on their tour - much too expensive considering we need expenses for a month. But I thought the spots that they hit would be interesting for our self-guided tour ^_^

Yeah, if you're going on your own might as well at least know where to go. When I finally go I think I'll try for their tour, if it's still running when I can afford to go (as I wouldn't be surprised if it was)...
