Oct. 25th, 2002 10:04 amI don't usually scare easily. I can watch scary movie with little to know problems. A few X-Files episodes have freaked me out, but I usually get over it as soon as the episode is over. But The Ring.. holy crap.. I was so scared that I had to sleep on the futon in Kristin's room because I didn't want to go back to my own room. It's break.. and the first floor is basically empty.. and Joanne isn't here.. -_-;; Very scary.
I cringed at the gore. I cringed at gore. It was the flash cuts. It was too much for me! The style was so very in-your-face. And the music. Eek! The storyline was a pretty basic urban legend. You get a tape. Right after you watch it, you get a phone call saying you have 7 days left. The catch is (and this gives away the end of the movie, so....) if you make a copy and pass it on to someone else, you'll be safe from Samara. For most of the movie, Rachel (played by Naomi Watts) frantically tried to find out who made the tape and why it's killing people. It's all a lot scarier than I am making it sound, trust me. Those aren't really even the parts that scared me... because...
You think the movie's over. Rachel almost dies, but she figures out where Samara's body is and she sets her spirit free. Noah (played by NZ-born Martin Henderson) gets her out of the well and it looks like he, Rachel and Aidan are gonna be one happy family. They've survived, the girl is free. Whee! Until the next morning when Aidan asks Rachel if Samara is still in the dark place. Rachel happily answers that no, she set her free. Aidan snaps up. "Why did you do that?" Huh? "You weren't supposed to help her." Oh crap. "She never sleeps." Ack!! Cut to Noah's place. TV goes nuts. Vid of Samara climbing out of the well. Then Samara climbing out of the TV! That part scared the shit out of me!
So.. poor Noah dies. Very gruesomely. Rachel figures out that in order to survive, you must pass the tape on to someone else. Logically, she makes Aidan copy the tape to pass on. "What happens to the people we give this to?" Honestly. if I were you, I wouldn't care. I'd find some shlub on the street and say, "hey, watch this film! I'll give you $50 if you do."
The huge, glaring goof that irritated the crap out of me was when Rachel was searching on the 'Net for info, you look at the address bar and it says "C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\...." That was just.. stupid. What, you couldn't pay Google to dummy a page or something? Sheesh.
Mmkay.. it's 10am and I am still creeped out... I hope my mom comes soon o_O
