Last night, my computer decided to be a total talk and throw a fit every single time I open Internet Explorer, or anything in Windows that requires Internet Explorer. Also, I kept getting a program <unknown> that was freezing.
Feckin' stupid Microshite systems.
I ran a virus scan last night - system is clean. Ran ScanDisk while I was sleeping and there are apparently no bad sectors. Oh, yes, so let me tell you what happened - I set up the WakeMeUp program for my alarm as always, but I forgot that it was set to load a CD, which I had taken out. Whatever. I checked my computer out, just to see if it had fixed itself (as it sometimes does). Not so much. Apparently, it was trying download a file from somewhere everytime IE opened. All this, of course, resulted in me being 10 minutes late for the Help Desk meeting.
After the meeting, I checked out some stuff on the Help Desk computers. Of the many things that could be horribly wrong, it's possible that index.dat or some other file is causing a conflict somewhere. Of course, not being able to delete or open any of that, I can't really fix the problem. Teri suggested using the Internet Repair tool from Add/Remove programs. No such thing.
ARGH!
I spent most of my morning backing up what vital files I could before I finally decided that maybe I should shower and make some kind of appearance at my Digital Video class. It was about 11am before I actually made it out the door. Met Joanne on the way there and went to lunch with her instead of going where I was supposed to. Eventually made it to FACR and had to call the Lab from outside because the door was locked. Got a CD from Ryan with music for the movie and found out that I just need to submit a list of cast and crew to Sven for my movie. Too bad I can't type it up on my own computer!
So here I am... at work. Idiots calling about stupid shite I don't really care about.. Appointments to make for mail migrations. Two more hours of this dren before I can go home and finish backing stuff up. Once that's done, the bitch is getting wiped and XP is getting installed. Can't be worse than 98, right? Well.. suppose I could just wipe it again and reinstall 98.
I so need to get out today. I'll see if Q is around and if he wants to go out or whatever. *sigh*
That's it, dude. I'm going technopagan and setting up an altar around my machine.

Date: 2002-09-12 01:01 pm (UTC)That sounds so incredibly... not fun. *wince*
I hope everything gets worked out on it... and if it doesn't...? Well, just think of the immense satisfaction and release you'll feel if you can take a big BIG bat to it? Literally?
(yes, I know that's not really helping) *more hugs and a glare for the computer*

maybe i can talk him into getting the new scanner that they showed with the tower. :) it was *just* like the one that Willow used to scan the books into the computer in "I Robot, You Jane"!! hee :)
*good luck with your computer, hon!!*
