Scifi girl in a Scifi World...
Jun. 2nd, 2002 11:34 pmBefore I forget: X-Men 2 Script review
And a funny quote from Ewan McGregor that Stace had passed along: "Actually, I really want to play Princess Leia. Stick some big pastries on my head. Now, that would be interesting."
Spent most of my weekend watching two great marathons on the SciFi Channel: The 23 hour Farscape Chain Reaction and tonight's Babylon 5 Complete Movie Collection. Speaking of movies, the Spider-Man DVD Screener should be floating around online somewhere. If someone could perhaps download it... *wg* Should be two files, divx encode, about 650MB each. Just sayin'...
Moved my computer to the basement this weekend so I can work where it's not 85 degrees and super-humid. My power supply fan is still making that noise on start-up, but once it gets going, it's okay. I installed StarCraft and my brother and I figured out how to connect to computers with a crossover cable so we can play against each other. Go us. Also installed Dungeon Seige and the Star Wars lightsaber mod - which is really cool but I don't have enough RAM or my 3D card sucks so the game keeps crashing.
Went toy shopping today. My brother and I were looking for lightsabers. Yes, we're dorks. K*B Toys had the newest Anakin lightsaber for $25, but only had one. Somehow neither one of us bought it and were pretty pissed when we got to Toys R Us and they had stacks of Dooku lightsabers - or bongsabers as my bro calls them. Heh. He ended up getting a 20-shot Nerf dart gun. This is, of course, to beat my puny 4-shot. We played in the front yard for about half an hour before I get stung by a bee because we were rolling around on the grass ducking darts. Damn bees.
My last two days at CIT were pretty hectic. Wednesday was the dreaded 16 hour day which ended up being 14 hours with a 2 hour dinner break in between. Like days past, I didn't really do much but sit around. A bunch of us got snagged to help dining services setup for the big fancy dinner - and we all got yelled at, too. I don't know about the rest of them, but I work with computers. I have no clue how the dinner fork, salad fork, second salad fork (which was supposed to be a second dinner fork) are supposed to be lined up or whether the cup handle should be at 4 o'clock or 6 o'clock. Blat. Damn them! Oh, wait, actually, I reserve the damnation for someone else.
See... there were these two really big flower arrangements by the stage. Now, the flowers themselves were great - very nice. Hell, all the other flowers were great too - very nice orchids and such. But the two by the stage were arranged in those big, white, fan-shaped stands that are used at funerals. I thought maybe it was just me because I saw enough of 'em in Taiwan, but another lady came by and said the same to the lady to ordered the flowers. Well, obviously, I agreed with her saying that, "Yeah, I know! We had the same things in Taiwan." Well, seconds later, FlowerBuyingLady is near tears and has removed her glasses and is drying her tears while PunkGothGirl next to her is trying to reassure her that it wasn't intended as an insult and that people just don't appreciate her. I very distinctly heard at one point, "sometimes people my age say things that they don't realize are hurtful and only realize after they said it that maybe it wasn't the right thing to say." I was the only 20-year-old who had said anything, so obvioiusly she meant me. Well, hell no - I meant it. It looked like a funeral stand. So you made a mistake, so what? No need to cry about it. You're 50 years old for frell's sake. Get over it. I was told later that all through dinner FlowerBuyingLady was giving me the death glare. Pfft. Whatever.
Anywho, after dinner we had a very funny ventriloquist and a crazy juggler dude. He claims that he created the webpage on his own. This is me wondering if I could fix his internet tragedy. *snicker* No, really, it's pretty good. It's got functional Flash and everything... Still wondering if I could make a buck revamping his webpage... When the night's entertainment was over and done with, we had to help take stuff apart. Once again, let me just say that I work with computers and have no clue about audio equipment, therefore asking me for a "spanning cable" will get you a blank stare. Eventually everyon else got stuff put away while I stood around with Justin and Tim. It was only about 10pm when everything was done. People were talking about going to the Autumn and then bar hopping. Lucky for me the bars were bouncer-less so I just walked into the Oak with eveyone. Let me just say that hang out with supervisors after work is weird and cool at the same time. Chris needed to be up at 8am, and since he was my ride back to campus, we bailed at about 1am. Looong day.
Thursday was more of the same. I didn't technically have to work until 11am, but by the time I got there, everything was already done. I mostly sat around with everyone else - trading stories about FBL - and had lunch. Jeff and Kara were going to Crossgates that afternoon, so they brought me there to meet my mom. Which was good cause mum didn't have to drive to Oneonta to pick me up. We all had dinner then parted ways. Jeff mentioned again the blind date thingy - apparently the guy's name is Jason. That's good I guess. So far I haven't met a Jason I didn't like... We'll see, though. Oh - I also found out that I'm not going to have that $12/hour state job because there's some stupid regulation about family members working in the same department. The bastards. I was really counting on that money. I'm not going to get paid for CIT until the end of June. Blergh.
Time for bed. Gonna get more stuff cleaned and put away and probably finally purchase my new domains and some hosting space. I am so gonna be broke this summer. -_-;;

DivX
Date: 2002-06-02 08:39 pm (UTC)I have a ton of anime I wanna watch, but cant w/o the codec....and my damn computer doesnt liek the one I found. *sigh*
Re: DivX
Date: 2002-06-02 08:44 pm (UTC)The stupid thing about DiVX, is that the new codec bundles don't contain the older codecs, so just because you have the 5.01 bundle doesn't mean you can play 3.11 encoded files.
Does that make sense? :-/
Re: DivX

Date: 2002-06-02 09:39 pm (UTC)SO what do you think of the alleged temptation of Wolverine?
Makes an L/R shipper's heart sing, eh?

I read a great quote from Natalie Portman, about how EM was whispering all sorts of dirty things to her while they were filming one of the arena scenes.
He's so adorably naughty.

This is why I love him so.
