Anti-Britney-ness

I can't remember who or where, but I've heard Michelle Branch being called the anti-Britney. After dowloading a couple of her songs ("Goodbye to You" was featured in the Buffy ep, "Tabula Rasa"), I can see it.

Everyone should go get the album, The Spirit Room. It rocks. Michelle writes her own music, plays the guitar, and contributes heavily to her website. And oh my god, the amount of fan stuff that she has on her site is fantastic!

So, Michelle is the anti-Britney because:
1. She writes her own music
2. Plays guitar
3. Is entirely fan friendly (sorry, Jules, I'm still not convinced that Britney likes her fans)
4. Sings acoustic, and does it well. I have never heard Britney sing acoustic. Does she even know how to perform without a back-up band and pyrotechnics?

I'm cracked, I know. And yet I don't care...

Sorry Amez but I just want to rectify just two points.

Britney actually begins to write her own music (one song on the last album and 5 for the new one). She don't play any instruments but she dance. I heard her sing live a few times but never acoustic (I think the reason is because her popular songs are all rythmic songs and not exactly the best for an acoustic performance.
Concerning her fans, I admit that she don't always seem extremely open. I re-read all the interviews I have from her after our discussion and I think you were right saying she's building a front. She's not like this in private but she has to for the media.

Just to let you know. I know I'm a pain in the a**.

Britney may be writing her own stuff *now*, but Michelle is building her career by writing her own songs.

I do admit that Britney dances extremely well. And I actually heard Travis sing "Hit Me Baby One More Time" acoustically; it didn't sound all that bad. Mandy Moore does a great acoustic of her song, "Wanna Be With You," though that is more vocal.

I dunno. In the end, Birtney will always be an entertainer/performer to me. And Michelle and those like her will always be artists.

Actually I totally agree on that point. She's an entertainer and I don't really think she thinks of herself as an 'artist'. But at entertainment, she's one of the best, her producer and manager saw that and it's why she's a pop princess instead of a indie artist.

Britney Spears = indie artist. That's just sounds so bad. She's an entertainer and it's why I like her. (And I also love indie by the way but it's an other conversation).
