Just the two for today.

Once again, for those who are visiting and are not one of these people (because you are all cool)

1. Comment so I know where these are going.
2. Credit. Keywords or info page. Icons are tagged. Thieves will be hunted and killed for sport.
3. DO NOT edit. I spent 2 hours per icon tweaking everything and you really don't need to go in and mess around with it more. Really. It's fine. Hands off.

..

Right then. Enjoy! :D

oooh, hi! ^_^ Jengrrrl who wrote "Purdah" and all those lovely W/R fics... okay, going to being a geek now.

I use Quicktime Pro to get the clips and Photoshop to make the icons.

Thanks :) the movie icons are a bit complicated to explain.. but basically, it's a transparent animated gif with a still background.

If you have never created an image with animation before, do that before you try one of these.

The steps I use are generally:
1) Get frames for the animation (I use Quicktime Pro)
2) compile them in Photoshop (each frame on its own layer), tweak levels, link frames
3) create a new file for the icon. Make the still image part.
4) resize the file with frames. drag into icon file. resize more if needed. The smaller the size, the more frames you can get get, but the less detail you will see
5) animate in imageready.

You can find tutorials online for all the individual steps. Just search google.

oh quick question, can you use powerdvd to get the movie clip or do you reckon i should use quicktime pro?

Date: 2003-09-08 12:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amezri.livejournal.com
I haven't used PowerDVD, so I'm not sure. I use Quicktime because my source files are movs I downloaded. PowerDVD will be fine as long as you can get the frames saved.

okay and sorry to bug, but one last question (i'm feeling a case of dumb blonde coming on), the frames are just the images yeah (like when the scene flashes to xander's face and then to anya's for her response or something)? and i will have to link them all in photoshop once i've saved them and then animate them?

Good job! I grabbed the blade! :)

From: [identity profile] amezri.livejournal.com
The frames are the individual still images that make up an animation/movie.

I suggest linking them so that when you drag them into the new icon file, they will go over all at once and you don't have to move 30+ layers individually.

I wanna borrow the "Jazz hands" icon -- though I doubt I'll use it till LJ gives us the extra 10 icons -- errg! Tired of waiting on them! Good stuff! And thanks for posting the tips on making the mini-movie icons -- I had some ideas on that but hadn't started experimenting yet, and appreciate any pointers I run across.

:Giggle: Yeah, I understand the pain of trying to give tech support to the truly clueless. (Why I refused to give my non-computer-owning grandmother any type of computer lessons...)
