Get Your #@%!$ Paws Off My PDA! - you better believe if you try to dismantle my CD player I will kick your frelling ass. I feel bad for people who carry laptops onto planes.

Too early to be awake. Glargh. But at least I get to talk to my Sez ^_^ ::hugs her::

Found the number for AOL billing to give mom. Checked the uberconfusing SUCO site to see when my diploma should be here... 6-8 weeks they say. So I'm being told be friends to call if I don't getit by October -_-; Oy.

God damn. I really don't want to get ready for work. Blah.

Hmm, I so didn't have any trouble at all during my trip. I didn't have any electronic devices though, except for my cell phone. But they didn't even tell me to turn it on. And on the return trip I didn't even have to take off my shoes. ::shrugs:: But if I brought a laptop and someone tried to touch it I'd bite them.

Yes. I would bite and scratch and claw.

Way back in 1999 when I took my laptop on a flight with me I was prepared to have to turn it on -- but all the security folks really wanted to see was the startup, meaning that I had to hang around and wait for it to finish starting up so I could shut it down properly afterwards. Same deal with my digital camera -- once they saw it power on, they stopped worrying about it. I don't think they'll actually be monkeying with files or anything, and will more than likely let you be the person to handle it while they stand beside you and watch.

On my flights to and from London in February and March, I had to take my boots off (steel toes) and turn on the camera, but they completely ignored my cell phone.

But I was really pissed off by that last quote in the article, with the guy saying that if it was a choice between his life and the sanctity of your laptop, he'd be the first in line to tear your computer apart. It was just such a clearcut case of someone missing the realities of the situation -- airport security doesn't make a fucking bit of difference because any would-be terrorists have already taken procedures into account and are going to be able to work around them the same way the 911 folks did (assuming the next big thing is another plane attempt, which is unlikely since "it's been done"). It's really just an excuse to jerk people around and make them nervous -- not to mention the way airlines are now using security procedures as an excuse to get away with not giving the obligatory free tickets to people whose flights were overbooked, by claiming it was the latecomers' own fault for not coming early enough for "security regulations."

Well, I don't mind that they want to turn it on and check.. as long as I am the one handling it. The iffy part is the risk of them trying to inspect a laptop while it's on and trying to turn it over.

Well, cross your fingers and hope that by the time you fly the security folks have had enough geeks screeching at them for rough handling of their laptops that they don't want to mess with them anymore -- and that you avoid getting a security guard like my friend [livejournal.com profile] cultscomics, who plans to celebrate the last day of his hated airport job by being the most officious rules-conscious Rimmeresque prick that he can -- because under normal circumstances he and his coworkers frankly let a lot of the worst of the nitpicky procedures slide just to get people through security that much more smoothly...
