More about CIT later tomorrow, but first...

What am I told when I get home? My father used my computer. This is, of course, after I had unplugged everything and shut the power switch to the tower off. And to top it off, my power supply fan is making a grinding noise - one which he decided to ignore.

So I called his ass up and asked him what the fuck he thought he was doing. Not in those exact words, but I told him that there was a reason everything was unplugged. To which he replied - "I turned the switch off." Well, that's great, but that means my stuff isn't being protected you dumbfuck. I asked him about the fan and he said that it stopped after 5 minutes or so and he told me to go buy a new one and hey - he'd pay for it. Riiight. Let me just go buy a new power supply so I can rip out all my cables and rewire the insides. Yay! Fucker.

And hey - way to go on leaving the computer running while it's making the grinding moise especially since you know fuck-all about computers in the first place. That's it. I'm putting a boot password on my computer. Or a login password at least.

This is a big cosmic joke right? Because things have not been going right this last week. This last month even. The auto-off on the monitor is all fruity and makes the machine freeze. The power supply fan is now all messed up. And the girl who is supposed to send me my cloak hasn't. I sent her $160 through eBay two weeks ago and I've got zip. No e-mail, no nothing. If I don't get an answer really soon, I'm going on all the forums she's a part of and bad-mouthing her. Also, I know her friend Aimee's e-mail AND LiveJournal, which is how I found out about Crystal in the first place.

'kay, that would just piss me off to no end. First thing I did when I got my computer was put a log in password on it so that no one can get into Windows. I've told Mum the password (for emergencies) but she never remembers it anyway. I just feel better knowing that not everyone can get into my computer.

The other thing I would contemplate is putting a password on the screensaver... so that if I leave my computer turned on, no one can use it if I'm out... (the downside is that, I usually leave my computer connected to the 'net when I leave for work, but Tai disconnects me when she gets up before she leaves for work. *shrug* Oh well...)

Yeah, but a screensaver password would just piss me off when I'm using the compy ;) BUt a log in password might be something I'll do...

A pretty infallible method

Boot password is what you want. You switch on the machine, and you can't get past ENTER CURRENT PASSWORD unless you know the right one. I set that up since Windows passwords are notoriously easy to get past and I agree totally, I don't want anyone using my machine unless I said so. If you set a user password in the BIOS setup, that's pretty much guaranteed. Especially if your dad is as much of a dumbfuck as mine when it comes to computers. :)
