Musings on Faith.
Oct. 29th, 2002 02:02 amToday started out kind of iffy, but gradually got a little better. Until, you know, I had to go take my Personal Law mid-term. I fell asleep studying this afternoon and didn't wake up until 5:56pm - it's a 6:00pm class. >_< I got there just in time I guess because Xlander was still talking about inheritance and divorce things. Exam started at 6:30pm - a nice 6 question essay test - to which I knew none of the fancy law terms for, but I think I got it close enough to get points. -_-;;
Painted my nails for Halloween. Joanne had this really cool dark cornflower blue color. I like it lots. ^_^
Had a very retro Joss-verse evening. Watched season 1 episodes of Angel: "Five by Five" and "Sanctuary." I cannot say enough how much I love these episodes and how much I love Faith as a character. I always felt she had the best dynamic on the show - the screwed up psychotic Slayer - and these two episodes brought closure to her story. Her extremely destructive behavior was all a means to an end - she wanted someone to kill her and the only one she felt could do it right (or even at all) was Angel. Angel figures out her plan and helps her to see that redemption is painful and there's no easy way out.
Erm, also did enjoy the parts where Buffy was being very snippy and Angel let her have it. I'd forgotten how much impact that punch Angel delivered had. Honestly, Buffy deserved it for going off on Faith (though I see her side of it - having just been body snatched) and anyway, she hit Angel first - he was only reacting. If you notice, she didn't apologize for hitting (as she later says) the one person she will ever truly love, but she was shocked and appalled that he would even touch her! Oh dear! Poor Slayer with her stronger-than-vampire strength! Pfft. Whatever.
Right, then. So butt out. I disliked her even more for her petty retort after Angel tried to explain what he was doing. It was so unnecessary for her to shove Riley in Angel's face, emphasizing the fact that she could trust Riley. Yes. Right. You trust him so much that your neglect of your relationship leads to Riley's vamp junkie behavior. And so she's saying she never trusted Angel? But I digress. Good on Angel for having the gall to stick it to her and tell her to take her fabulous new life and shove it. Er.. wait until Buffy finds out about Angel and Cordy. Ultimate bitch line: Faith is about to apologize and Buffy cuts her off with "apologize to me and I will beat you to death." Ouch.
Also watched "Primeval," the sort-of season 4 finale of Buffy. It was... eh. I'm glad Joss let "Restless" finish off the season. This episode was kinda blah and really only served to get rid of Adam and bring the gang back together - in a very quick and lame way, might I add. Matrix!Buffy was still as cheese-filled as I remember it, but the idea of them combining powers was pretty cool. Spike was still, well sort of, the Spike I loved - sarcastic, witty, and out to save his own ass. I miss that character. The crazy, rambling blond who looks just like Spike (imagine that) in the newer seasons is getting pathetic. Loved Xander's line: "Does anyone else miss the mayor? 'I just wanna be a big snake'." Heh.
Conclusion: I miss the days when it was about the story arc and not who was sleeping with who and who was more dysfunctional and how cool can we make the moster of the week. But what do I know? I just ramble. Must buy season3 when it comes out on DVD in January.

BUFFY: She's playing you. She tried to kill you!
ANGEL: That was just - that was just a cry for help.
BUFFY: A cry for help is when you say 'help' in a loud voice.
ANGEL: I know Faith did some bad things to you.
BUFFY: You can't possibly know.
ANGEL: And you can't possibly know what she's going through.
BUFFY: And of course, you do? I'm sorry. I can't be in your club. I never murdered anybody.
