bored; icons

I'm bored. But I'm lazy and unmotivated. So now I'm sitting here refreshing my flist and inbox over and over again. I am such a loser :-P

Tomorrow I have to get rebadged. Yay? This probably means that I have to go over to parking. Again. Ugh. It's like... all the way across the short term and long term lots. Sucks. I bet it's going to be raining tomorrow too. Fantastic.

Look. New icon. Yay River! I would so watch 2 hours of just her. Yes. I think this one came out really nice and I really like it :) My other new one is really dorky and has a Wonderfalls reference, but I really don't know when I'm going to use it. Oh well. Sheppard is pretty and I want one.

*pets the pretty boy*

Uhm. Gonna read some fic now. And then go to bed.

Amezri!

OMG< love that icon! Would you maybe post a "how I did it" thing, because that look eludes me in iconing and your river icon is stunning.

In fact, I love your icons and fangirl them from afar ;)

Thanks for the compliments ^^*

Hrm. I'm not exactly sure what I did to get the icon to look like that. I think these are the layers I made and how they were stacked:

gradient, set to lighten
cropped image, image desaturated
brush design
text
brush design, faded to 8%
white background

Uhm. Does that help any? ^^*

Ok, I *think* I get it, lemmie see...

top layer is a graident you used, set to lighten, probably a golden/light buff to medium brown, right?
Next layer is the cut out of River, desaturated.
Next layer is another brush
Next layer is your tiny text and the words "river tam" (If you remember, what font? the River Tam font is nice and clear small!)
Next layer is a brush, faded a lot
Bottom layer is a white background

I'll give it a try and see what I can manage! Thanks! I love your graphics, btw. But, you knew that! ::HUGS::

Oooh.. I was talking about the Sheppard "Girl needs a boy" icon. Heh.

The River one is done sort of similar. I cropped the German poster I found. Then cropped a close up of her face for the next layer and set it to.. something. I can't remember. Probably overlay. Fiddle. Used the layer masking to cut around River's body so that part would appear clean. Next layer was some color adjustment gradient, also with a mask to keep the image of River's body on the right clean. Then came a latey with the text.

That should say "Then came a layer with the text." And honestly all of the color work itself came from the actual image. I didn't have to do much to it at all.

So, on the background image of her face, the horizontal line above her eyes and the opacity change in her hair was on the poster? or did you play with it?

And did you fade the background image at all? or was it that transparent when you found it?

I didn't add any elements to the original base except for a closer crop of her face in the middle. Everything else was part of the image, including the lightness of the background.

Man.. this is really making it seem like I didn't do anything at all to this icon XD which I kinda didn't.
