work; not me; sin city; internet worm

Work was good. Met with the owner of the new management group. He seemed cool. I don't think we're going to notice any sort of change, actually.

Today I wore a shirt that I'd worn many times before and a skirt that I'd also worn many times before - never together, though. So, I'm wearing this shirt/skirt combo today and I get stopped three times (once by a TSA guy I didn't know) so I could be told that I looked "stunning" and "gorgeous" and "like a model." It was weird and awkward and I don't want people to do that again. Compliments on my appearance are... erm. Not unwelcome, but I just sort of nod and smile, say thank you, and run away.

Meh. Anyway.

I was going to take a trip to Circuit City after work today to pick up Sin City, but there was a crazy rain storm. I figured if I couldn't see 10 feet in front of my car, going to pick up a DVD would be silly. Also, I'm not as keen to get it as I thought, even though Circuit City is giving away a set of lithographs with it. Meh. Maybe I'll go tomorrow. *shrug*

Re: Massively huge internet worm warnings that are flying around CNN, etc: If you've gotten any Windows 2000 or XP updates since August 9th, you're probably fine. If you're using 98, you're not affected.*shrug*

The Windows Validation thing. What does that check? Do you know? I don't like letting them install new programs.

Windows Validation checks to see whether or not the copy of Windows you are using is a legitimate copy. If you're using a legal copy of Windows, it's fine to install it. If you're not, there is a link to a hack on this page which I haven't tested.

Microsoft says that they will still push out critical updates to unsigned/unvalidatd machines, so I don't know what validation gives you access to. I would suggest not validating for as long as you can. Stupid Micro$oft.

compliments

why should you feel the need to run away?

Uhm. because I don't like compliments on my appearance? *shrug* I don't mind if people compliment my job skills or other abilities, but I'm not comfortable with being told I'm pretty, etc. Because I don't think I am.
