sin city!!
Saw "Sin City" with
queenmaab, Brian, Matt, Berta, and Steve.
thebigfatman &
pgnblade: we missed you! Hope you're feeling better, Greg.
Had dinner at Houlihan's. Went to Best Buy and didn't buy anything! Go me! Went to see movie. Saw bad trailers and a few good ones. Of note:
+ Lords of Dogtown. Looks awesome. I saw "Dogtown and Z-Boys" ages ago and that was pretty good, so am hoping that this will be just as entertaining.
+ Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! OMG. YAY! Must see this movie! Best trailer ever!
+ War of the Worlds. Uhm. Meh. Let me know if Tom Cruise gets killed.. I might watch it then. If the alien's don't all drop dead at the end of the film? I'll be annoyed. Is that a spoiler? I don't care. if you don't know what I'm talking about you were probably lacking in literary education. Or something. Just. OMG. Don't screw this up.
And now.. Sin City! Spoilers, obviously.
This movie? Blew my mind. Knowing that 80+% of this film was CG really helped. Heh. Like "Sky Captain," only this worked out much better. I liked the little self contained stories that sort of connected to each other as the film went along. The cinematography and stylized images were perfect - it made the violence really odd and.. comical. Seriously. People were laughing while cringing in the theater. Also, the guy who got shot with the arrow and is all "uh... guys? arrow?" cracks my shit up.
Hartigan? Kicked ass. Though like most of the characters it was just sort of "okay, DIE. OMG. Just stop." and then he doesn't and you're all, "yay! live!" and it's just the most bizzare thing being okay with people's hands getting blown off and their heads being beaten to a pulp.
Jessica Alba? Strangely didn't spend every single scene she was in thinking about how much I dislike her. Which is good, because I shouldn't spend that sort of energy.
Clive Owen is t3h sex. As is Josh. But Clive? Guh. I've known about him since Second Sight and he just gets better. Dwight and Miho were the power duo. For real. Forget about Gail. Feh. Speaking of... Devon Aoki is weird looking. She just... is. [/catty]
Elijah Wood creeped me the fuck out. He was all right at the beginning of Marv's story where you just see the glasses and then OMFG when Marv has cut off his legs and then he's just staring with his creeptastic eyes and OMG that was so frelling creepy. And he's just got these bloody stumps and he keeps staring... OMG. Yeah. CREEPED OUT.
I thought Nick Stahl was Jared Leto. That's sort of all I have to say about that.
I'm still digesting the movie and at one point I had a quote I wanted to make an icon out of, but then I forgot the quote as the movie went on... so now I'm at a loss. But yes. Good movie, if a bit slow in a few parts, but definitely the most comic-like film adaptation of a comic. W00t.
