Following a pretty good showing at Uncommon Grounds in Albany ("pretty good" meaning I sold one piece), I was asked to display my work at a cafe in Troy, NY. And so...

FLAVOUR CAFE SHOW
SEPTEMBER 20, 2011 - NOVEMBER 1, 2011

EXTENDED TO DECEMBER 1, 2011!

I am showing twenty-one pieces at Flavour Cafe in Troy, NY! They are located at 228 4th Street, Troy, NY. They are open 7:30am - 10:00pm Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 10:00pm Saturdays, and 8:00am - 8:00pm Sundays.

This show took about 2 hours to hang - I hadn't seen the space beforehand so there wasn't a plan. Thankfully, [livejournal.com profile] smashedrecords came along to help me hang the artwork and plan where to put pieces. The staff at Flavour Cafe was really friendly and I'd like to thank my friend, Joe, for asking me to display there.

Wayhey! My very first solo art showing!

UNCOMMON GROUNDS ART SHOW
AUGUST 1, 2011 - SEPTEMBER 12, 2011

* due to a mix-up, my show is being extended, but I don't have an end date yet

I am showing thirty-one pieces at the Uncommon Grounds in Albany! If you'd like to stop by, they are located at 1235 Western Ave., Albany, NY. The store opens at 6am and closes at 11pm Friday - Saturday and 10pm Sunday - Thursday.

It took about two hours to install the show last night and probably would have taken me a lot longer if [livejournal.com profile] smashedrecords and [livejournal.com profile] queenmaab didn't come and help me out! The input on where to place things and the help getting labels on the wall was extremely helpful. So, thanks, guys!

One guy stopped to talk to me while I was waiting to start hanging my pieces and two people had a peek at the artwork as it was going up, so hopefully the show will do well.

Photos of the show all up on the wall! )

Please come visit the show if you're in the area! :D

The artwork in this etsy shop reminds me of [livejournal.com profile] spaggel

Especially this and this.

[livejournal.com profile] iambliss was talking about business cards and it reminded me that I'm totally out of the crappy ones I printed and cut out myself.

So, I decided to redesign my cards to match my current site layout and get them printed on Vistaprint. $30 got me 250 cards, which isn't too bad, I guess. Here's what I ordered:

amezri: (keira ;; sparkly)
Aya Kato is the artist of the Fuzin Raizin skin I bought Friday. While poking around for more of her things, I found her website, cheval noir. Very, very cool pieces. Some of the figures remind me of Yoshitaka Amano's work. Somehow I just ended up at ROJO, buying her artbook. I love artbooks. This one isn't a bad price either, considering.

I did actual yardwork today. It was hard. Okay, well, it wasn't really yardwork -- I filled four planters with plants. Plus, I planted the wild strawberries we picked up at the botanical garden yesterday. Hopefully they'll grow well and we'll have strawberries! :D

After all that stuff, I worked on the Browncoat Shindig yard sign, which came out pretty nice. I'll be planting that in the ground on Saturday. Saturday! Man, I can't believe it's party time already. I still have Jayne hats to make and food to buy! Gonna start to panic soon, I'm sure.

So... iCarly was on TV. I'm sure no one on the flist actually watches it. Right? Heh. But okay, anyway, I'm watching and it struck me that the star, Miranda Cosgrove is like a little River Tam. Or Summer Glau. Whichever. But, yeah. I might have been staring at the screen going, "dude... little River!"

amezri: (simon&nick ;; pegg & frost)
Oh. em.gee. My stuff is mostly back in my room! HUZZAH!

Actually, I've just put all the furniture back in place and then set Schrodinger back up *cuddles* because I couldn't stand being computer-less anymore. Not that... Talyn isn't a computer, but, yeah. Need the whole desktop setup to make me feel complete.

It's kind of strange to have all this floor space since a lot of my junk is still randomly littering the hallways of the house. I almost don't want to put it back, but I think my mother would protest that a lot. On the plus side, I have managed to throw out a whole garbage bag full of stuff so far and vacuumed parts of carpet which haven't seen the light of day in many, many years.

There is a rather small issue of things not fitting exactly where I thought I had them before, but it's really not too bad as it does allow me a bit more room. If you count 3" as a bit more room...

This morning, mom took me to the diner for brunch and then to Kohl's as a reward for painting all the finished windows. I think the trip cost her more than it would have been to hire someone to do the job, but whatever. I got some snazzy new clothes - some for work, some for fun - and I found a My Little Pony with a cowboy hat! I totally want to customize it and make a Browncoat Pony. So, will probably just remove the design on the side and paint on an Alliance symbol. I might try my hand at dying it brown, but I dunno. It's already orange and I figure I can just paint the hat.

Mkay. Gotta go put some clean sheet son my bed, grab a snack, and put some more stuff back in my room! Hm. Also going to have to print out photos for my haircut tomorrow...

Left work early today as planned. Got my Jeep washed, which wasn't part of the plan, but it was so sunny out, I thought, what the heck and went for it. One of the boys there was admiring my car. He said he'd just gotten a Cherokee Sport, but didn't have leather like mine and asked how I liked it. Love. It. After that, I hit up the bank and got home and...

Discovered [livejournal.com profile] seijitataki got his Wii in the post. Well... I had to sit down and make a stupid little Mii (we made one for mom, too) and played a game of bowling. After that bit of distraction, I went about packing and I think, if nothing else, I have all my costumes and food packed up. Anything else is good enough if I remember it I guess. Hah!

So, I think I'm basically all packed for Farpoint. There are a few small things I'm trying to get done before I head to bed... except there is this vinyl siding/window guy here and my mom is insisting I listen to the presentation. I've skipped out on the window portion because really I don't care and I think the company's fine. I'm just going to pick colors.

Anyway.

Thanks again to everyone who helped me pick prints for the show. Here are the final framed images, all numbered 1/500. I guess I'm really going to start to keep track now. Also there's a picture of this year's convention giveaway, Module.

Back to last minute packy things! I will probably post again in the morning.

Meh. Spent the last two hours trying to get my art work for the show printed out. The printer was a fiddly and I had the wrong settings, then the ink ran out and. Argh. Finally got four nice prints -- had to kill and ink cartridge to do it, but I finally got them. Of course then, once I got them all laid out, I didn't like and of the colored mattes I bought and discovered I hate two of the frames. Which means tomorrow, before I meet up with [livejournal.com profile] erintheodd, I'm going to have to go to Jo-Ann's to look for more frames and them possibly go to Arlene's to buy another black matte.

Blargh. I'm calling it a night. I'll take up the cutting and the matting and the framing tomorrow at some point.

Right now, I'm not even sure I want to watch SGA. I should just go to bed... since I've been awake since 4am. -_-;

Right. A poll. I need a bit of help deciding on the third submission piece for the Farpoint Art Show.

I have definitely decided on two already: Atene and Atropos II.

via the Farpoint site: Our convention emphasizes, but is not limited to, science fiction, fantasy, media and Trek.

So, I'm sort of aiming vaguely in that direction. I think all the pieces I'm thinking about below kind of float around there.

Now. Pick your favorite! :D If it helps at all, the pieces will 8x10 prints on matte photo paper mounted in an 11x14 mat and framed. I also plan on selling them at the show.

Edit: Apparently I totally forgot that you can't vote without an LJ account. So, you guys who are LJ-less, just leave a comment or something. Ta!

[Poll #1121885]

(+2 for Paleo; +1 for Blackened Heart; +1 Prospective)

Thanks for the help! Feel free to leave comments.

Went with Mandy & [livejournal.com profile] erintheodd to Panera's to get lunch. I'm thinking I should not be eating grilled cheese. Well, I mean, I liked it, but my stomach didn't so much. Sad.

After work, I met up with [livejournal.com profile] queenmaab at JoAnn's to pick up some frames and things we needed to make our costume skirts. ZOMG. I spent $60 on frames. Three frames. Eesh. I think I can use two of the cream mattes for a couple pieces, but I definitely want another color for the Atene print.

And I was going to post a poll asking which pieces I should print, but I've actually got a fair idea. Definitely Atene and Atropos II. Hm. So I guess I might need to do a poll for the third on after all. I still haven't figured out how to do pricing. Best I figure it's to take the cost, plus time and multiply it by three. Right? Hm.

Tonight's quick To Do List:

+ order patches from PatchGeeks
+ reply to e-mail about artwork for show
+ create artwork logging spreadsheet
+ pay for CDs
+ renew domain names

My Newegg order came in, so this weekend, I'll have [livejournal.com profile] seijitataki help me get the new heatsink in. Hooray! On a related note, it's no wonder CrackSpace was crashing my computer -- I went there last night and my CPU temp shot up to 90C. Geez.

Hm. Dinner. Then probably going to watch the rest of Top Gear series 10 and fiddle with some new games on the DS.

After work today I met up with Ben at the mall. Had dinner at Uno's then wandered around FYE, Borders and Best Buy. Good times.

In a fit of insanity, I'm contemplating entering the Farpoint Art Show. I also have the opportunity to sell my artwork that's shown there and... I dunno. I guess that would be cool. I've never really had anything sold before. Anyway. I've written them to see what the details are. If I don't have to frame anything, I think I've got 5 pieces I can print at 8x10 and then put in mattes. If I have to frame them. Well. Hm. I dunno. We'll see. Maybe one or two. How much should I charge though? Bah. I have no idea.

As I am starting to psych myself out about this, I'm gonna go clean out my work bag because it is a mess.

Uhm. Hm. What have I been up to?

After work yesterday, I stopped at Best Buy to pick up the latest Harry Potter DVD and Lost Season 3 (price matched with Circuit City and saved $5! Woot!). Came back and wrapped nearly all my Christmas gifts. I still have a few that need to be boxed up and mailed and a couple that, uh, need to be made. So unfortunately, I'm already going to have to apologize to people for late gifts. They'll be holiday gifts! Erm. Yeah.

Tonight after work I stopped at Joann's and bought a bunch of gift bags (hey, if they aren't used this year, there's the next). I was going to go to Target, but then I could figure out for the life of me what I was supposed to be buying.. so I just went home. Mom made curry beef for dinner (yum!) and I didn't really want to watch TV so I sat down and for the first time in a long time I made some icons. They sort of suck. I made a handful of Tin Man ones, but other than the two I uploaded, I hate them. Also made a Barrowman one and a Piemaker, which suck less, but I didn't really do any tweaking to the original images.

The weekend after Christmas, I'm heading to the Knitting Factory on the Ten Year Vamp bus. Hopefully I'll get to spend a decent amount of time with [livejournal.com profile] ozw, who I apparently haven't seen since ICON (omgwtf??). I'm excited though :) YAY, OZ!

[livejournal.com profile] erintheodd - my old batch of Fosters icons. Feel free to snag.

In other news, even though I haven't posted any recent images, the Tillandsias are all still alive. I think. I'm actually not really sure of the tenuifolia is still alive as it always looked half dead. Oh well. The stricta looks kinda like crap, but it's still going, so that's good. I'm sort of afraid the victoriana is dying as it doesn't look quite as nice as it did when I got it. BUT, they're all still generally green, and that's pretty good for having them a few months.

Right. And now I'm off to make the rounds and read some really, really bad Tin Man fic.

This is a repost, with extras! As promised, here's my Torchwood Logon screens for other sizes: 1280x1024, 1280x800, and 1680x1050.

Each of the four sizes are designed a little differently and I actually still prefer the original 1024x768 that I'm using on Talyn. The others look pretty good though. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sweetwildandmad for helping me tweak the widescreen one a bit.

previews for all four sizes )

Once again, the logon skin is based on the original system interface design found at Torchwood.org.uk. I redrew some bits for the other sizes. Hopefully it all looks okay.

It's for Windows XP only as I don't have a machine with Vista on it. But, if you'd like it, you'll need:

+ LogonStudio for WinXP
+ my Torchwood skin in your screen resolution (user icon included):
     1024x768 | 1280x1024 | 1280x800 | 1680x1050

Install LogonStudio. Unzip the Torchwood.zip. From LogonStudio, select Load and find the Torchwood.logonxp file you extracted.

If it doesn't work when you hit Apply in LogonStudio, make sure your logon option for Windows is set to use the Welcome Screen:
Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Change the way.. -> check both boxes

I am too lazy to make a wallpaper, but if you must have one, just find where you installed LogonStudio and there should be a Torchwood folder in there somewhere. The first .bmp file should be the right size to use as a wallpaper if you want it.

Glad to share :) Feel free to link to the post. Do not hotlink the files. Thanks! Comments are appreciated!

So... wasn't feeling well at all today so I came home early. Had a sit down and.. uh... finished up my custom Torchwood logon screen XD And I thought, well, it came out so nice, maybe someone else would want it?

preview.. which will probably break my layout )

It's based on the original site login on the Torchwood.org.uk site. I had to redraw everything from scratch as I couldn't find any decent caps and there wasn't a way to get back to that screen on the site. Anyway, I think it came out pretty cool. I added the box on the left while watching Torchwood tonight... but I couldn't figure out what text to put in it, so I just pasted in the disclaimer from the site XD

It's for Windows XP only as I don't have a machine with Vista on it. But, if you'd like it, you'll need:

+ LogonStudio for WinXP
+ my Torchwood skin (also includes user picture, not in preview)

Install LogonStudio. Unzip the Torchwood.zip. From LogonStudio, select Load and find the Torchwood.logonxp file you extracted.

EDIT: Reposted here in more sizes!

Uh. Hopefully it works? I'm not exactly sure how well the exporting went as the compression is pretty wacky. So. Give it a try and then let me know. Comment anyway and let me know what you think!

Edit: I should probably mention that it's for a 1024x768 screen. It looks weird right now in anything else I think. I will attempt to fix after work.
